Sehr geiler, doomiger Melancho-Hardcore at it`s best, ultratiefgehend und w?tend und aufw?hlend ? G?nsehautkompatibel und mit einer sensationellen Power! Reason To Believe zine Url: http://rtbzine.ndo.co.uk Review date: 2003-06-01 Grade: This was an instant hit with Mojo. He indicated that it reminded him of Finnish crust style bands paying tribute to Tragedy. I could see what he means, cos it really is pretty doom and gloomy and dark yet with awesome rocking melodies hidden in amongst the heaviness. The pained vocals and good political lyrics were a plus too, and I noticed Mojo could empathsise. I felt it could have been a little bit faster at times, but there is plenty of angst and pissed-off-ness both musically and vocally, so that doesn't matter. Mojo thought he spotted a Bolt Thrower riff in one of the tunes too...and thats a good sign. - xleoxH Busted Heads Records catalog Url: Review date: 2003-05-01 Grade: Darkness descends over the gloomy country of Finland! Heavy and melancholic with tons of slick melodies, this is modern day hardcore at it's best.. - 138 Aversionline Url: http://www.aversionline.com/reviews/1232/ Review date: 2003-05-01 Grade: This is some brutal metallic hardcore/punk from Finland that revolves around moderately paced tempos and crushing rhythms with a multi vocal attack that ranges form high screams to midrange shouts and low growls. There's definitely a sense of dark melody to the songwriting, but they don't beat you over the head with anything - in fact, even the guitars aren't half as heavily distorted as most bands of this nature, they really give the instruments room to breathe. Loose comparisons to His Hero is Gone are unavoidable, but I would not at all place too great an emphasis on that, it's simply a point of reference, because there's a lot of other stuff going on here. Take for example the lush clean break in "From Despair Within" with layers of vocals going off in the distance with some forceful percussive patterns. "Seeds and Soil" is the most explosive track: It's louder, faster, more energetic? it's still got a bit of a dismal edge to it, but overall it kicks things in the ass and makes for a great closer. The recording is pretty fucking great. I love the clarity of the mix, the drums sound great, the bass is there, and the guitars are textured without being too heavy or generic. I think the vocals could be mixed back in with the music a bit more though, especially the higher screams. And "Seeds and Soil" sounds like it was mastered a lot louder than the other two tracks, which I might have preferred to hear differently. Those are my only suggestions. They've done very well. The layout's not bad. Spanning the front and back covers is an image of a dead body in the water (surprise), and even though it looks like it was taken off of a website (pixilated), they seem to have worked with that and possibly fucked with it a bit more to make it look purposeful. Inside are some high contrast black and white images/textures with lyrics and contact information. Lyrically things seem to take the political-gone-personal approach, where the presentation has some underlying socio-political commentary, but it's subtle and wrapped in personal thoughts or feelings. "Hope needed, rope received, The crumbling pedestal leaves us a pile of dust to breathe, Silent consent, masses breeds masses, Desperation no day without a feeling of confusion, I'm running on second chances countless times, Well salted wounds ain't numbless yet, feels fucking annoying, The crumbling pedestal leaves us a pile of dust to breathe, Hope needed, rope received." This is a damn fine 7" from a band to watch? I think that if they continue to focus on their more creative and less typical elements they'll hit the jackpot. 7/10 points - Running time - 10:00 (approximately), Tracks: 3 [Notable tracks: From Despair Within, Seeds and Soil] - Andrew Shogun Records catalog Url: Review date: 2003-04-01 Grade: This band combines different sludgy elements, a bit like Hanging Rotten, but with a noisier Breach / Buzz Oven approach. - Phil Silentstagnation Url: http://www.silentstagnation.de/sxs/reviews.php?review=427 Review date: 2003-03-12 Grade: Hailing from Finland these Ex-Sharpeville guys present their first release on the two finnish labels Thrash And Burn and Winter Records (not the German label with the similar name!). The recording is rough, but that fits to the dirty metallic hardcore that sometimes remind me of The Swarm, they have that certain fucked up feeling of The Swarm records whereat Dead In The Water haven't got that much to do with Powerviolence. It's more punkrock with metallic elements and through the harsh screaming and shouting of the singer it gets this rough touch! I really like it because it also remembers me on former German bands like Linsay or the first 7" of Enfold! I hope they'll do more soon because those three songs can't glut my appetite for more! 3 tracks 3.9 / 6 stars -marcel Maximum Rocknroll #236 Url: Review date: 2003-03-01 Grade: Crushing hardcore from Finland that appears to take influence from bands like Tragedy, except they have a bit more of a grind element in their music. Loud sweeping guitars, pounding drums and low guttural vocals. The pace of the music varies some, with a few fast energetic moments. But most of it is slowed down heavy stuff. This is dark and brutal and I like it a lot. - Rob Coons Toinen Vaihtoehto zine Url: Review date: 2003-02-01 Grade: Eip? t?ss? tietystik??n voi Sharpeville haamua sivuuttaa, enk? tied? toisaalta olisiko siihen tarvettakaan... kun kyseess? kuitenkin on se b?ndi, jossa on valtaosa edesmenneen Sharpen miehist?st? ja musiikkikin jatkaa hyvin siit? mihin Sharpen ainoaksi j??neell? albumilla p??stiin. Ennen Sharpea tuli t?st? levyst? kyll? mieleen jenkkil?inen Ruination, mutta se johtuu pelk?st??n kansista. Kansitaiteessa nimitt?in on eritt?in paljon smaa tyyli?, taidetta ja samanlainen tunnelma kuin Ruinationilla. tosin Dead In The Water on musiikillisesti parempi kuin Ruination, ei siin? paljon Los Crudosin rumpalit auta jenkkil?isten pisteit? nostamaan. Kyll? n?in on. T?ll? levyll? on kolme laulua el?m?n synkkyydest?, maailmaa kohtaavasta tuhosta ja kaikesta muusta mielt? ylent?v?st? ihanuudesta. -.m. Roskazine Url: http://roskazine.cjb.net Review date: 2003-01-01 Grade: Dead in the waterilta on tullut ulos todella positiivinen seiskatuumanen. Sharpeville haudattiin muutama vuosi sitten ja viel? parempi kokoonpano tuli tilalle. Eli siis samoja tyyppej? kyseess?. Musiikki on metallivaikutteista, v?h?n hitaampaa hardcorepunkkia kuitenkin ja levylt? l?ytyy kolme hyv?? biisi?. Mit? t?st?k??n osaa nyt sanoa. En l?yd? mit??n huonoa koko levyst?. Just vaan 3 tiukkaa, hyv?? biisi?. T?mm?st? haluis kuunnella koko levyllisen... |
